Just awaiting cable and cable grommet before its on road again. Heel and Toe shouldn't be a problem now!!

Modified Accelerator Pedal

Modified new pedal to enable the accelerator to be cable in stead of linkage unit.

Just waiting on cable to arrive so it can be installed.

Bought the pedal off Rare Spares, but as always, these things need to be modified for them to fit correctly.

Under Dash bit for great price

I was watching this item on ebay and when it came around to the last day and no bids I had to get it. $99! Bargain I've seen them sell for $200+

And its in great condition for 40years old!

Its the LC Torana "under dash" that has lighter, choke, wipers, ignition and lights.

The one currently in the car is all black, has had holes drilled in it, cracked above the steering column so I think its a great buy.

It's also wood grain so it adds a bit of class to the interior!

Console Upgrade

I have had some time at work so I decided to do a bit of work on the interior. I made up some trim for the console from red 1/4" nylon tube. I made blank templates first from black nylon tube.
I formed the shape of it with some stainless welding wire inside and the hot glued it to where the original was clipped in.
At some stage someone had made the chrome trim for around the shifter themselves so an original trim wouldn't fit and the console has been a bit molested to spend the $ on for an original. So I will make do with what I have at the moment.

I also had some left over material from the door trims so I made a new boot for the shifter and boot to cover the hand brake aswell. ( I used Suzie's Sewing Machine - Thanks )

Its all just sitting there athe moment no screws, and carpet not tucked in, its getting there slowly.

Gilmer drive is on.
Bit of mucking around chasing a alternator, had trouble getting pulley and fan off alternator, used a rattle gun came of it 2 seconds(Thanks for the tip Cam!!) decided to paint it at work! (Had to fill in my day somehow).
Bought a Thermofan 10", if its not big enough, I'll upsize it later.
Mounted my thermostat in a box (also at work). Got thermostat from Supercheap and when I got it home i noticed it was second hand!!
Someone had changed it over (dodgy) in the shop and put a cactus one in the new box!
Got it changed no worries and even got the next model up for no extra $$

Took it for a spin, seems to be a lot more throtle responsive?

Started Gimler Drive

I started to put on my Gilmer Drive on the Weekend.
My Alternator was a Hitachi (genuine GM part off a VK/WB) when I needed a Bosch for the pulley to fit.
Got one from the wreckers for $40 Have had touble getting the pulley off. A bit of heat from the oxy at work should get it off.
The Gilmer Drive cost me $80 (USED) from Ebay.
Will be interested to see what it looks like all finished, at least there will be no squealing from slipping V-Belts now.
Will also need to fit New Thermo Fan when I'm ready to start it up again.

Still Working on door trims and Wiring

I'm upto the last door trim now. I will add some photos when I am finished. I have also bought some split tubing and neatend up the wiring in the engine bay. Looks a little better now, just have to tidy up the individual wires to Oil and Temp senders and bits. I will add photos of that soon also.

Door trims. Don't know if I like them.

Rebuilt Clutch Bracket

I have rebuilt the clutch linkages and bracketing. The old bushes and pins were very worn and would bind when fully depressed. I used brass bolts as pins which I read about in a Torana club newsletter somewhere. The benefits of brass bolts as a pin is the brass will wear out quicker than the steel and can be easily replaced instead of the hard to find (now days anyway) rat trap pieces and brackets. I also used large 10mm brass bolts with nuts and drilled through the nuts and bolts and held them in place so they do not come undone with split pins. I had a friend from work machine up in a lathe and press in a new bush in the fulcrum part of the linkage. I also read that you need to weld tags on the linkage parts of the mechanism to stop the bolts turning in the bushes. Not sure of the reasoning for this but I made sure I did it whilst the whole thing was out of the car.

Car Show

I entered the car in its first Car Show, got plenty of comments about the paint but it was very obvious that its a work in progress when you peer in through the window. (un finished door trim etc.) Good day, they raised $60,000 for the local hospital which was great and there was plenty of good cars on display.

Carb Trouble

Carb started playing up. I wasn't happy with the “squirt” from the fuel pump. I had trouble locating information about the Holley 4360. I found the part number for the fuel pump plunger and it had an image attached.

I took the top of my new carb (second hand) and found the plunger to be inserted upside down!

I guess the guy I got it off put a kit through it and and buggered it up. Thats why I got it so cheap?

Fixed up the plunger problem and checked and adjusted float level while I had top off.

I also found the instruction leaflet on the Holley website!! They should of named the sheets after the carbs not some random non meaningless file name?

Some New Additions.

Got a 4 Barrel Manifold. Redline Hi Flow MK II.
Holley Economaster #4360 Carb.
It looks like a squarebore but it is actually a very small spreadbore at 450CFM.
Oh and a Holley 14" air cleaner, which just fits by Millimeters.
Was going to wait and fit them in a months time but couldn't resist. Glad I did, the car now howls when you open it up.

Door Trims

I saw a really cool design for flames on door some where on the web. I printed out a picture and filed it away. I finally decided I would start them so..... here is the progress.

Top image is a test piece covered in vinyl from Bunnings, I have ordered "roebuck" to do the actual doors.
Last image is a test fit, I painted the flame to make it stand out so I could visualize what it will look like.

Found Bent Stub Axle

Found bent stub axle on drivers side, I pulled it down and sourced another, fitted it, while I had it apart decided to replace both wheel bearings on both sides.

Radiator Flush

After having a LC Torana as a first car I had longed to get another. I had been looking for the past year and none really took my fancy or they needed to much work. In the end I found on advertised not to far from home, it was neat enough and was a four door so the family could cruise in it also. Deal was done. Picked up car and dropped it in for RWC.
